The Business Coaching Process

Murat Dorkan is a graduate of Towson University and the American College of Financial Services with over two decades of experience as a financial consultant. Business coaching is an ongoing process designed to help a client, such as a business or nonprofit organization, achieve their business goals. Coaching can be structured in different ways, such as individual or team based coaching, and focus on different goals, such as sales or teamwork. Coaching typically consists of ongoing meetings that progress through a structured, phase by phase process.

The business coaching process includes early startup phases such as contracting, information gathering, and feedback. These phases help define the coaching relationship and provide the coach with necessary information. Following the early phases, active coaching works toward defining and developing goals, followed by the implementation of a plan or plans to achieve these goals. Progress is re-assessed on a periodic basis to adjust the coaching program if necessary. Lastly, business coaching consists of an evaluation phase to assess the success of the program, where follow-up coaching is provided if desired by the client.
